Governance
Overall strategic management of the organisation is undertaken by the Trustees as a whole through their monthly meetings. The staff are accountable to the Trustees through the Chief Executive, who reports to the Trustees at these monthly meetings.
Day to day management is undertaken by the Chief Executive who is line managed by the Chair of the Trustees, Saleh Alnoud.
Trustee recruitment
Trustees are recruited from suitably qualified or experienced members of the local Yemeni community.
New and replacement trustees are nominated by members and stand for election at the AGM. The group so elected may then co-opt up to three additional Trustees. The Trustees aim to be as inclusive as possible and have used co-options this year to bring in new Trustees.

Meet the Chair
The Chairman of YCA speaks about his role and what he hopes the future holds for YCA.
"I became chairman in March 2007 when I was recommended and invited to join the board of Trustees.
When I started as Chair it was always my intention to make the YCA more open and inclusive and to be closer to the ordinary members of the community.
We are now in the process of registering members. Anyone wishing to vote has to be a registered member. So far there have been many changes and we hope there will be more to make the YCA more inclusive and open to everyone who can offer something to the community.
I would urge young people to get involved and I will be encouraging and supportive of anyone who wishes to do so. I believe we need to be united to face the challenges as a community in the UK. Education must be given greater importance. Every young person should have some form of qualification. We must set the standards high and we must always believe in our abilities and achieve to our full potential."
A message from the Chief Executive
I am striving to enhance the organisations success and push forward our visions for the future. I initially started off as a Development Worker in 2002, working for the YCA to provide activities for women. I quickly progressed to manage Adult Learning and the Advice Centre.
My new role is challenging but rewarding and I feel proud to have become the first woman to direct all the services available at the YCA. These include the Arabic School, Welfare and Advice Centre, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes, Study Support, ICT classes and the childcare facility.
The last ten years have seen the YCA develop into one of the strongest black organisations in Sheffield.
I am committed to ensure all services are delivered professionally, demonstrating accountability and transparency. Our aim is to bring the organisation into the21st century, engaging both young, old, male and female. I understand the history of the YCA and believe we have a lot more work to do for the organisation to be respected both in the community and in the city.
