Time for change!

Projects have been developed to meet the required needs as the community has expanded and changed. The YCA now delivers strong projects that are recognised for their quality and impact in the community. Since its implementation YCA has diversified to work with other community groups, such as, Somali, Pakistani, Afro-Caribbean and white groups.

Full steam ahead!

Through the hard and collective work of both the staff, the community and the trustees, the YCA is now recognised as one of Sheffield’s most active, reputable and robust BME (Black & Minority Ethnic) organisations.

The YCA's key priorities include:

  • Increasing skill levels and employability of adults through a large-scale ESOL; skills and citizenship programme.
  • Increasing the life-chances of young people through homework club / study support provision and positive, diversionary recreational activity.
  • Ensuring all members of the community take up their entitlement to benefits and other legal rights.
  • Working with agencies to campaign for and develop culturally appropriate day care facilities for the elders who have given so much to the city through the steel industry.
  • Ensuring young people maintain their identity and heritage through the Arabic Language School.
  • Developing community cohesion
